Bless the Present

“Bless the present.” is one of the basic precepts of Huna, an ancient Hawaiian philosophy. I’m not saying that I agree about everything with this philosophy but this very precept is really powerful. It can certainly add quality to your life. So I’ll tell you my own way of enjoying and intensifying the present moment, my own way of blessing the present.

Future and Present

It’s important to direct your future in some way. You can make tomorrow’s present moments much more pleasurable if you set the right goals and go after them with some self-discipline. But after all, the present moment is the only thing you got. Now is the only time you’re experiencing.

Wealth, Happiness or Wisdom

I’m sitting on a comfortable sofa in a far away room. Wealth, happiness and wisdom are sitting next to me. I’m carefully observing these three goals.

Wealth stands up. It steps forward and looks at me. Then it starts talking:

“You’re allowed to choose one of us. But only one of us. You should choose me! I’ll make you powerful and happy. Don’t waste your chance, don’t go for happiness. Don’t choose wisdom either. Wisdom is unnecessary once you’re rich and happy.”

The Tragedy of Somebody

This story is about Somebody. You probably don’t know him yet. Well, he’s an average member of our modern western society. The kind of person you don’t really notice. You don’t even need to know his real name, I’ll just refer to him as “Somebody” from now on.

Somebody watched TV. That’s how he got to know the rich and beautiful, a perfect but unreal world. He didn’t really think about the things he watched so eventually he got the feeling that he was a part of that perfect world too, the feeling that he too had to be rich and beautiful.

Unfortunately, Somebody looked like an average person. A real average person, not average in terms of what you see on television. And he wasn’t rich. He just didn’t fit in this artificial world. And he didn’t like that. Actually, he didn’t like himself anymore. So he tried to adapt himself. At first, he tried to become rich.

Techniques to Create Motivation

Motivation is crucial for any success. Without motivation you lack endurance and give up too soon, so success becomes impossible in the long run.

Fortunately, there are plenty of techniques and tips that will help you to become and stay motivated.

Unfortunately, you need to apply them more than one time. It’s not that you need to use a certain technique more than once to become motivated, but motivation tends to fade away quickly if you let it go. So you will need to motivate yourself regularly. Keep that in mind. That’s also the reason why it can be pretty useful to have some different techniques in your repertoire. Alternate. Combine. Don’t become bored by using the same technique over and over again.

To finally add some variety to your motivation creating process you may try out the following techniques:

Limitations of the Free Will

I’m not a big fan of boring introductions, so let’s just start.

What can we say about free will? What can we really know about it?

The concept of a completely free will is completely unrealistic. There are just too many influences and restrictions:

  • Biological influences: Our genes form the blueprint of our body. Without genes, we would have no body and therefore no brain to make decisions with. You don’t even have to take it to the extreme. Take being tall as an example. It can certainly give you some additional possibilities or at least have an effect on your decisions.
  • Social influences: (more…)

The Basics of Effective Autosuggestion

You probably know about the placebo effect. It shows that people can recover from disease if they believe that they will recover. Placebos make their subconsciousness believe that they should become healthy again. And so they do.

It’s as if the placebo made a suggestion like: “I will operate like an ordinary pill. That means you will recover after swallowing me.” And the subconsciousness believes it and causes the body to recover.

But such suggestions don’t even require any pills to be effective. You can make them yourself. Without the need of any hocus-pocus. And that’s what autosuggestion is all about. Making your subconsciousness believe something you want it to believe.

But how to do that in an efficient way?
