“Bless the present.” is one of the basic precepts of Huna, an ancient Hawaiian philosophy. I’m not saying that I agree about everything with this philosophy but this very precept is really powerful. It can certainly add quality to your life. So I’ll tell you my own way of enjoying and intensifying the present moment, my own way of blessing the present.

Future and Present

It’s important to direct your future in some way. You can make tomorrow’s present moments much more pleasurable if you set the right goals and go after them with some self-discipline. But after all, the present moment is the only thing you got. Now is the only time you’re experiencing.

People always say they want to enjoy life. Then they plan to enjoy it but start feeling negative, stressed out. These plans may persist but happyness fails to appear. That’s not how life should be, is it?

If you really want to enjoy life, then you need to enjoy the present. Bless the present moment, because it’s everything you got. Of course, this sounds easier than it actually is. The truth is that most people forgot how to be happy with things they are accustomed to. They take it all for granted.

The Difference Between Children and Adults

If you watch children play, you see that this is not the way things have to be. Children are able to have fun with simple things and they still appreciate nature. Why is that?

It’s because kids think differently. They play and live in the present moment. Most adults only want to possess. If they see something they like, they think: “I want to have it. Can I afford to buy it?” They lost their sense of natural beauty in favor of a materialistic attitude.

This attitude could be the cause of some richness, but in most cases it’s just the cause of disappointment and emotional coldness. So why not just lay that attitude aside for a moment? Try to let it go.

Let Go

Realize that you are the only one who makes you feel stressed out. Most of your current anxieties are unnecessary. Allow yourself to relax for a moment and forget about all your worries and troubles. Calm down. Don’t try to cling to the moment, don’t stick to any thought, don’t expect anything special to happen. Just let go. Notice how peaceful and wonderful it can be to live. It’s a pleasure to live! You don’t need any expensive trash to feel good, you just need the right mental attitude.

If you are able to see the beauty of the present moment, you may add the following technique to increase the enjoyment of living in the now.

Perceive Consciously

Observe every detail of your surroundings. Look around and see. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You’ll notice the truth of this sentence once you began to perceive consciously.

And perception is not limited to vision! You can do the same with all other senses. Take the sense of taste for example. Consciously taste your favorite meal the next time you eat it. You’ll probably be surprised by the extra sensations!

You’re missing so much information every second, try to perceive more of it. Sensations intensify your life if you allow them to do so.

Now it’s up to you if you decide to try out these techniques. I started using them some months ago and I don’t want to miss them anymore.
